Confirmation for St. Gabriel Catholic Church in the Northland of based in Kansas City Missouri

Youth Confirmation 2021

Confirmation Registration Form

Dear Brethren,

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  It is a great blessing to serve you as a priest of the Most High God, and in the upcoming months it is my special privilege to prepare our young men and women for worthy reception of the holy sacrament of Confirmation.  The Seven Sacraments are gifts from Our Lord to His Church for the salvation of our souls.  We need God’s grace to get to Heaven, and we receive this principally through the reception of the sacraments.  The sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For by it, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit.  Having received this powerful sacrament the faithful are empowered to act as true witnesses of Christ, to more fervently spread and defend the Faith by word and deed.

I am asking all high school aged men and women in need of this sacrament to be present at St Gabriel Church on the following dates:

  • Sunday, January 10, 3:30pm-5:30pm
    • The Profession of Faith: Revelation, Tradition, and Scripture. The Creed.
  • Sunday, February 21, 3:30pm-5:30pm
    • The Celebration of the Christian Mystery: The Liturgy. The Sacraments.
  • Sunday, March 14, 3:30pm-5:30pm
    • Life in Christ: Vocation. Morality, Virtue and Vice. Church and Society. The Ten Commandments.
  • Sunday, April 11, 3:30pm-5:30pm
    • Christian Prayer: The Universal Call to Prayer.  The Lord’s Prayer.

The sacrament of Confirmation will be imparted through the imposition of the hands of Bishop Johnston on Thursday, April 15, 7pm at St. Patrick parish in the Northland.

            Your servant,

            Fr. Samuel Miloscia

P.S.  Please see below for a listing of the parish’s requirements for those who are to be prepared for the Sacrament of Confirmation

Expectations for those who are to receive Confirmation

  • We will meet at St. Patrick’s in the Northland on April 14 at 6:30pm, for a practice rehearsal of the Confirmation ceremony, so that everyone will be confident in what they are to do the following day at the actual Confirmation mass on April 15.  Both the candidate and his/her sponsor must be present.
  • Please register for the aforementioned preparation and reception of this sacrament by clicking here for Confirmation Registration Form.
  • If you were not Baptized at St. Gabriel’s, you must obtain a copy of your Baptismal certificate from your parish of origin and submit it to the St. Gabriel Parish Office, Att: Angela Garcia.
  • Attendance at all four sessions is required for those who are to receive Confirmation. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend the first session.
  • To receive Confirmation one must be in a state of grace. One should receive the sacrament of Penance in order to be cleansed for the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1310)
  • Candidates for Confirmation, as in Baptism, fittingly seek the spiritual help of a sponsor. To emphasize the unity of the two sacraments, it is appropriate that this be one of the baptismal godparents. (CCC, 1311)  The sponsor should be a faithful, practicing Catholic (incl. Baptized, Confirmed, and Registered at a Parish).
  • The parish requests that each family make an offering of $100 to help cover the costs of this Confirmation program.  Checks can be made payable to St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish.  There will be pizzas provided at each meeting. Each Candidate for Confirmation will also receive a Holy Bible and a Catechism of the Catholic Church.  If this is too much for you to contribute, then please contact Fr. Samuel in the parish office and we can work with you.
    • The minister should ask nothing for the administration of the sacraments beyond the offerings defined by the competent authority, always being careful that the needy are not deprived of the help of the sacraments because of their poverty.  The competent authority determines these “offerings” in accordance with the principle that the Christian people ought to contribute to the support of the Church’s ministers.  “The laborer deserves his food.”  Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2122.

If you are 18 years or older and have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation – you are invited to participate in our Adult Confirmation Preparation program. The four preparation classes will be held on Wednesdays from 7-8:30pm in the Parish Conference Room at St. Gabriel. Those who complete this preparation process will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, with others from the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph with a special Confirmation Liturgy celebrated by Bishop Johnston at the Cathedral. If you are interested and/or have any questions regarding Adult Confirmation Preparation please contact Angela Garcia 816-453-1183 ext 205 or [email protected]
