Confirmation is offered freshman year in high school, but will accept upper classmen as well. A desire to receive the sacrament, and maturity to participate in small groups, large groups, community service and a retreat is necessary. Active parish membership is required, plus participation in parish Sunday Masses. It is a one semester program based from Life Teen’s Oneight Program, a comprehensive sacramental prep program modeled after the Rite of Christian Initiation. For more information contact Diane Pickert at Ext. 208 or email [email protected]
If you are 18 years or older and have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation – you are invited to participate in our Adult Confirmation Preparation program. The four preparation classes will be held on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30 p.m. – during the Easter Season and prior to Pentecost. Those who complete this preparation process will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, with others from the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, with a special Confirmation Liturgy celebrated by Bishop Finn at the Cathedral. (Adult Confirmation Liturgy Date To Be Determined.) If you are interested and/or have any questions regarding Adult Confirmation Preparation please contact Angela Garcia 816-453-1183 Ext. 205, or email [email protected]
Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.
